Price and Value Proposition
The current market price of iPhone SE 2020
The iPhone SE 2020 is currently discontinued by Apple and finding brand new is quite impossible. Typically, you have to buy a used phone but at least try for the best possible condition. But ya your budget will decide the phone’s condition and storage specification. The current price is around ₹30k($360) but in used condition, it goes around ₹15k($180) for a good condition.

Pretty Minimal Design
The iPhone SE has an aluminium build and glass on both sides of the phone. The materials used in phone construction are the same as on the iPhone 13. Moreover, it has an IP67 water resistance rating of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
At the front area, you will be disappointed by its large bezels on both sides of the screen. Even when I see the latest iPhone SE 2022, has the same big bezels. But when it comes to affordability, apple just copied and pasted the previous iPhone design.
It has a hyptic home button which also acts as a physical fingerprint scanner. At the top, a single selfie camera has been given. At the left edge, you will get a volume up down dedicated button with an alert slider which is nowadays removed from iPhones.
Overall, its design is premium and sleek. Its hand feeling may you feel the phone is pretty small but also feels compact.
A 4.7-inch Size Display
It feels so stupid when you know that it has 4.7 inches of screen size. The deal ends here if you are not comfortable with its display size.
Further, it has an HD+ display which is not an issue at all. It supports 4k 60FPS video playback on YouTube. The panel type is IPS LCD which is common in this price range. It produces close to natural colours but when it comes to clarity and detail it is just incomparable. I don’t know the peak brightness but it is average in indoors and poor in the outdoors.
After all, its display panel quality is good but it does matter size. For normal usage, it is just enough but in content watching, gaming, and viewing experience, yeah size matters. iPhone SE 2020 is a good option for normal video watching, calling, texting, etc.
Performance and processing capabilities
One of the main reasons why you should not buy the iPhone SE 2020 is because of the lack of 5G support. The iPhone SE 2022 has 5G capability by which it become a valid buy if you want a 5G iPhone.
Look there is a significant CPU improvement but this is on paper specs. The actual usage of the CPU is declared at a certain usage. Usually, compact phones are used for normal tasks. You can’t do heavy gaming, video editing, etc. Therefore, there is a lot of potential but the use is very limited.
In my opinion, there is an improvement of course the A15 is a 5G chipset but for performance, there is not a big upgrade (only for compact phones like the iPhone SE series). If your priority is 5G then definitely you must go for iPhone SE 2022. The only important aspect of buying the iPhone 3rd gen is its 5G capability.
The iPhone SE has equipt a single 12MP rear camera setup. On paper, 12 MP might be a small number but the camera performance is far better in the actual world. I think this is the best camera in this price range. Whereas other phones might have a higher MP camera but matters image quality.
On the front, a 7MP selfie camera is given which is average but the image quality is good. One thing you will notice, its low-light performance is very average. For the best result, I will recommend you capture photos or videos in a full-light environment only.
The iPhone SE is capable of recording videos at 4k 60FPS. Believe me, its video recording quality is insane compared to its price range and even higher price range.
Consumer reviews and ratings
I have found reviews from an e-commerce company (Flipkart) and genuinely its rating is insane. Due to its price to performance, this iPhone has received excellent reviews and ratings from users.
Software Experience and Updates
The iPhone SE is currently running on IOS 17 with all the latest features of IOS 17. The IOS experience is super smooth when compared to this segment of devices. But keep in mind, due to its old design and form factor it might not receive all the features as other iPhones will receive.
As per the history of software updates, the iPhone SE 2020 will receive software updates until 2027.
The Only Concern is the Battery
Battery backup totally depends on the workload. It has only 1821mAh battery capacity. Note that if you buy this device then battery health must be above 85% or more but not 100%. Because a 100% health battery is definitely fake or not original. The battery health will decrease more when compared to the original one.
In simple words, on normal usage, you might have to charge it 2 times or more depending on usage. And on heavy usage, it might die within 1 or more hours. This is a good reason why it is classified as a secondary device only.
In conclusion, the iPhone SE 2020, priced affordably in the used market, remains a viable option in 2024 for those seeking a budget-friendly Apple device. Its compact design, powerful A13 Bionic chip, and impressive camera capabilities make it a compelling choice for primary device users.
However, the absence of 5G support and the limited battery life, especially under heavy usage, categorize it more as a secondary device. For individuals prioritizing performance and features over the latest connectivity options, the iPhone SE 2020 proves to be a worthy investment, offering a balanced blend of functionality and cost-effectiveness.
