iPhone 11 Pro Max in 2024! Still worth buying in 2024?

Now it’s time for us to check out the iPhone 11 Pro Max and evaluate its performance in the year 2024. This particular iPhone is almost 5 years old, which is quite remarkable.

There were many changes with the arrival of this iPhone and the thing to note is that when this iPhone was launched in 2019, it was not a minor upgrade. I would argue that this was one of the most significant advancements in the history of iPhones from one generation to the next, especially when compared to its predecessor, the 10s Max.

Design

Moving to the bottom, you’ll find the Lightning port, which is a convenient feature. Lightning is a perfect fit for many users, and while it may not be as advanced as USB-C, it is a significant improvement over the old 30-pin connector. Having a Lightning port is still perfectly acceptable for most people.

Returning to the frosted class, it’s worth noting that this phone exudes a remarkable sense of premium quality. The phone still maintains its premium feel even when compared to phones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is largely due to its frosted glass back, which not only looks great but is also aesthetically pleasing.

The triple camera setup, located at the top left, is another important addition that sets this iPhone apart from its predecessors. The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max were the first iPhones to feature a triple camera setup, and since then, it has become a standard feature in later models. Furthermore, this device also offers wireless charging and IP certification apart from many other excellent features. Considering it’s five years old, I’m still extremely satisfied with how much this phone has aged in recent years.

Display

On the exterior of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this particular iPhone sports a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display on the front. The display is of exceptional quality and was considered an upgrade from previous generations, such as the iPhone XS Max.

What I particularly liked about these phones was their aesthetic appeal. They looked great, and at the time, there wasn’t much need for a 90Hz or 120Hz display, especially considering that competitors like the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and OnePlus 7 Pro didn’t offer such high refresh rates. Even the Pixel 4 and 4XL had a 60Hz display, which was perfectly adequate.

In my opinion, this type of panel still holds up well, with a notch at the top that blends seamlessly and a minimal amount of bezel around the display. There’s not much to complain about here, and I believe a phone like this is more than satisfactory even in this day and age. The display itself is of excellent quality, and overall, it gets a thumbs-up from me.

Camera performance

In terms of camera setup, there is one interesting aspect to consider. iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with a triple camera setup, which consists of a 12-megapixel wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide camera. Also, there is a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera on the front. A big feature is the ability to film in 4K 60 on both the front and back of the phone. This is a significant improvement over previous models, which only allowed 4K 60 on the rear and 1080p on the front. The fact that the iPhone 11 Pro Max can film in 4K front and rear is a great addition.

However, the most striking feature of the phone’s camera is its hardware performance, which performs well compared to the latest generation. Although the camera quality of the new iPhones is better, the camera of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is still good. Considering that this is a 5-year-old phone, it’s impressive that the camera still performs well.

However, when compared to the latest generation, there is a noticeable difference. Some photos and videos may appear a little grainy depending on conditions, but this is not a major issue. If you know what you’re buying, the iPhone 11 Pro Max offers a good camera experience, even though it’s not the most expensive option available.

Software Support

In terms of software, the software aspect of this particular device is the most interesting. The iPhone 11 Pro Max is in a weird situation where it’s second in line to be discontinued. 2018 iPhones are still supported, but 2019 iPhones are likely to be discontinued soon. These iPhones are next on the chopping block. It would be unfortunate to recommend people a phone that will become obsolete soon after purchase.

iPhone 11 Pro Max

Although this phone isn’t that old now and won’t be when you buy it, its software life is limited. I wouldn’t recommend people a phone that’s already on the verge of dying. Please keep in mind that this phone is currently supported and will remain supported even if you buy it this year.

However, its last major software update will likely be in mid-to-late 2025, likely iOS 18, and it will only receive security updates after that. This is not a terrible situation, but it is something to consider. It summarizes the perspective on this matter.

Performance

In terms of performance, this iPhone is equipped with the Apple A13 Bionic chip and 4 GB of RAM. It is important to consider a few factors here. While this phone’s performance is not exceptional, it is still quite decent considering its age. I have had a positive experience using this phone and it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it, even when compared to newer models like the iPhone 15 Pro Max or the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Overall, it is a good-performing device and that is something I appreciate.

However, if you are looking for a phone to last you for several more years, you may want to consider a device with better performance. Nevertheless, considering the time it was released and even now, it is not a bad performer. It may be slower compared to the latest generation, but it is not a terrible-performing phone by any means. To summarize, it is a decent-performing device.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Battery Life

Battery life of any device depends on usage and the chipset manufacturing architecture. When comparing both phone’s chipsets, they are both made on 7nm architecture. The iPhone 11Pro Max has a 3969mAh battery which is decant from today’s standard.

We can expect one-day battery life but on normal usage only or you might have to charge the device once a day. Also, this depends on the battery health of the device. Good battery health starts from 85% to 95% and tries to get a device with good battery health.

If you are ready for heavy usage, then be prepared for multiple times charging the phone. Heavy tasks such as gamingcamera usage, and video editing may require frequent charging.

Conclusion

I must say that I am quite fond of the iPhone 11 Pro Max. It is a remarkable phone that I genuinely like. In today’s era, if you are considering purchasing a phone, this is a viable choice. It is a good phone if you plan on using it for the next year or two. However, if you intend to keep a phone for a longer duration, such as three or four years, I am not certain if this would be my top recommendation.

In that case, I would probably suggest the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Although it may cost an additional $100 or $200, it provides a significantly better user experience in every aspect. Nevertheless, if you are seeking a more affordable option, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is still a decent choice. It will withstand the test of time and serve you well for the next few years. Just remember, there are superior phones available for a slightly higher price.
